About us
Gomera Cycling and Walking is a small company providing guided walking holidays and cycling excursion in the beautiful and unspoiled Island of La Gomera.

Gomera walking was founded in 2011 by Andy McCarter and Paddy Margey - a husband and wife team from County Donegal in Ireland who had been coming to the Island on winter holidays for almost 20 years. Jesús Mora Mendoza, a young local man from a long-established Gomeran family joined them in 2013 as a driver and part-time guide bringing with him a wealth of local knowledge including fluent Silbo....a unique and ancient Gomeran whistling language and was followed by his delightful partner René Van Der Walt in 2015. René, originally from South Africa came to La Gomera some 10 years earlier to work in the hospitality industry and prior to joining Gomera Walking she owned/managed one of the best restaurants on the Island. She and Jesús in addition to working with Gomera Walking also have their own bike rental and tour/transport business.

In 2016 Andy was forced to take time out for total knee replacement surgery back in Ireland. Travel and hillwalking were out of the question for the winter months but René and Jesús stepped up to the plate and took total charge of the group bookings for the 2016-17 season which was a great success and this charming, vibrant and enthusiastic young couple proved to be very popular with our groups.
Andy is currently in recovery but unfortunately it turns out he now needs a second knee replacement...so he and Paddy have decided to bow out gracefully and are pleased to announce that the business will transfer fully to René and Jesús effective season 2017-18.
